My 2001 Crush..

It was in 2001. I sat in front of her as she said about my friend who had proposed her the previous night. My mind was not in her words. She was my first love. And she was totally unaware of this fact. In fact, she trusted me so much that she was telling me frankly about her emotions when the other fellow proposed her.

You should have been in my place to know what it feels! And my face was as usual deceptively calm. Things were too obvious. And it gives a different pleasure to see someone you admire, feel happy in confiding in you.

I have been advised by people (who heard this story later) that I should have taken the plunge and proposed her instead. Well, that's not my concept of love. It is a two-way lane and which two cars driving in opposite directions see each other, the drivers take their hands out and clap each other, screech to a halt, come out of the cars to an eternal embrace. If one of the drivers did not notice, it is not worth stopping.

I have experienced being in love many times and by the number of people I meet in my role of a personal advisor to many teenagers, I have got a version of their experiences as well.

I remembered this incident while I thought about someone's smile. And I hope this is a two-way lane.
