The Cycle Stand

My bus was delayed by four hours. It was the biggest bus depot in the state. I sat on one of the benches with my knapsack. Watching people.

The sky was cloudy-blue, and you could easily lose your thoughts in the hustle that pervaded the bus depot. Buses going to many different cities, luggage being loaded and unloaded, people sitting in groups immersed in watching the wall-hung TVs where an exciting India – Pakistan match was coming live – men, women, kids, college girls and guys, food stalls, and one stray dog.

There was a huge roar as one of the promising batsmen got out and walked back to the pavilion.

The boy looked quite hungry but was really amazed at the crowd peering at the replay of someone throwing something at someone else and everybody shouting. He must be 15. His walk and his style of observing people hinted me that he is clinically, a mentally challenged person. He posted himself a few feet away and continued looking at the screens like others. His hands moved in the style the bowler’s bowled and he clapped on seeing he can almost do it well. But he couldn’t find people shouting any more for some more time.

Two buses for Chennai, one air-conditioned, and the other a normal one, left.

He moved closer to the group. Standing on his toes, he tried looking over the shoulder of the spectators. I guess he lost his balance and leaned on one of the fellows.

A sudden turn. The fellow caught this guy and started shouting “Pick-pocket! Catch him!!”

No one noticed Sachin getting out as the crowd pounced upon this fellow. He screamed, and I realized that he was unable to speak. He uttered some incoherent shouts. I got up to help him out but he darted of away from the crowd.

A group of college guys took the opportunity of showing off some movie skills to the female crowd and darted behind him.

He ran towards the bicycle parking. And was walled there. The guys shouted abuses as they punched him. One of the cycles fell and a row of bicycles fell on to one side.

I contacted the constable on duty and he ran with his huge belly towards the crowd. One whistle from the police and all the heroes retreated back to realize that Sachin was no more on the pitch.

I stood in front of the sobbing boy. I tried to hold him but he did not let me do so. His eyes were filled with fear.

I stood a little distance away and asked the constable about the boy. I was told that he was homeless because he was mad. I doubt whether it couldn’t be the other way round.

A couple of minutes later I turned around to see the boy patiently picking up the bicycles and rearranging them in a neat queue.

Reality leaves a lot to imagination.

As long as you..

Although loneliness has always been a friend of mine
I'm leaving my life in your hands
People say I'm crazy and that I am blind
Risking it all in a glance
And how you got me blind is still a mystery
I can't get you out of my head
Don't care what is written in your history
As long as you're here with me

Chorus:
I don't care who you are
Where you're from
What you did
As long as you love me
Who you are
Where you're from
Don't care what you did
As long as you love me

Every little thing that you have said and done
Feels like it's deep within me
Doesn't really matter if you're on the run
It seems like we're meant to be

Chorus

Bridge:
I've tried to hide it so that no one knows
But I guess it shows
When you look into my eyes
What you did and where you are comin' from
I don't care, as long as you love me, baby.

Chorus

Who you are
Where you're from
Don't care what you did
As long as you love me
(Repeat to fade)

Maa Tujhe Salaam...

Yahan vahan saara jahan dekh liya
Ab tak bhi tere jaisa koi nahin
Main assi nahin, sau din duniya ghooma hai
Naahi kaahe tere jaisa koi nahin
Main gaya jahan bhi, bas teri yaad thi
Jo mere saath thi mujhko tadpaati rulaati
Sab se pyaari teri soorat
Pyaar hai bas tera, pyaar hi
Maa tujhe salaam, maa tujhe salaam
Amma tujhe salaam
Vande maataram, vande maataram
Vande maataram, vande maataram
Vande maataram, vande maataram
Janam janam tera hoon deewana main
Jhoomoon naachoon gaaoon tere pyaar ka taraana
Main jeena nahin soch nahin duniya ki daulat nahin
Bas lootunga tere pyaar ka khazaana
Ek nazar jab teri hoti hai pyaar ki
Duniya tab to meri chamke damke maheke re
Tera chehra sooraj jaisa chaand si thand hai pyaar mein
Vande maataram, vande maataram
Vande maataram, vande maataram
Vande maataram, vande maataram
Tere paas hi main aa raha hoon
Apni baahein khol de
Zor se mujhko gale laga le
Mujhko phir voh pyaar de
Tu hi zindagi hai, tu hi meri mohabbat hai
Tere hi pairon mein jannat hai
Tu hi dil, tu jaan, amma
Maa tujhe salaam, maa tujhe salaam
Amma tujhe salaam, maa tujhe salaam
Vande maataram, vande maataram
Vande maataram, vande maataram
Vande maataram, vande maataram
Vande maataram, vande maataram

The Story of Man..

Dreams need people like, people need dreams,
vision needs somebody to make it real it seems.
The world is a canvas and you have the power,
to paint your kind of picture,
when it comes to be your hour.

Hold on to your dreams,
just believe that you can.
Nothings going to stop you,
thats the story of man.

If you should ever lose your faith,
and stumble in your stride,
remember that the dream you hold,
is your purpose is your pride.

Never think of losing,
your place is in the sun.
To have the courage, to have a dream,
is to have already won.

Hold on to your dreams,
just believe that you can.
Nothings going to stop you,
thats the story of man.

Taste in a noodle soup

There is a beauty in the complicated way life events go ahead. If you observe, they are as complicated as music notes to someone who cannot read them. But the music is awesome. You got to learn to read them to know their beauty. I was relooking at the movie Jhankaar Beats. Life is portrayed in a diferent way, with a view that makes us relate to it as out own lives. We all are searching for something or the other in life. And for some of us, helping others in their search is the search. I am not an expert on movies, but I observed the way movies in India have evolved over the years. I am not going to list them, but if you remember the song "Ek din bik jaayega" till the song "Yeh jo des he tera", you find a multi-lane journey of human thought all converging into one point of human joy. There are very old songs that were once the best of songs of their times. Many of them are still very nostalgic. And the journey continues. Similar to the portray of thoughts as done in Jhankaar Beats, there is a beautiful expression in the movie "Life in a Metro". Awesome lyrics. Very thoughtful. It all twines together the way it does in a noodle soup. But you got to taste the taste. :-)

Tumse hi...

na hai yeh pana, na khona hi hai
tera na hona jane, kyun hona hi hai
tum se hi din hota hai, surmaiye shaam aati, tumse hi, tumse hi
har ghadi saans aati hai, zindagi kehlati hai, tumse hi, tumse hi
na hai yeh pana, na khona hi hai

aankhon mein ankhein teri, bahoon mein baahein teri
mera na mujhmein kuch raha, hua kya
baaton mein baatein teri, raatein saugatein teri
kyun tera sab yeh ho gaya, hua kya
main kahin bhi jata hoon, tumse hi mil jata hoon, tumse hi, tumse hi

jo dhaga tumse jud gaya wafa ka

raaste mil jaate hai, manzile mil jaati hai, tumse hi, tumse hi
na hai yeh paana, na khona hi hai
tera na hona jaane kyun hona hi hai

Everything..

Look into my eyes - you will see
What you mean to me
Search your heart - search your soul
And when you find me there you'll search no more

Don't tell me it's not worth tryin' for
You can't tell me it's not worth dyin' for
You know it's true
Everything I do - I do it for you

Look into your heart - you will find
There's nothin' there to hide
Take me as I am - take my life
I would give it all - I would sacrifice

Don't tell me it's not worth fightin' for
I can't help it - there's nothin' I want more
Ya know it's true
Everything I do - I do it for you

There's no love - like your love
And no other - could give more love
There's nowhere - unless you're there
All the time - all the way

Oh - you can't tell me it's not worth tryin' for
I can't help it - there's nothin' I want more
I would fight for you - I'd lie for you
Walk the wire for you - ya I'd die for you

Ya know it's true
Everything I do - I do it for you

Circle of Life..

From the day we arrive on the planet
And blinking, step into the sun
There's more to see than can ever be seen
More to do than can ever be done
There's far too much to take in here
More to find than can ever be found
But the sun rolling high
Through the sapphire sky
Keeps great and small on the endless round

It's the Circle of Life
And it moves us all
Through despair and hope
Through faith and love
Till we find our place
On the path unwinding
In the Circle
The Circle of Life

It's the Circle of Life
And it moves us all
Through despair and hope
Through faith and love
Till we find our place
On the path unwinding
In the Circle
The Circle of Life

Few thoughts...

Chains do not hold a marriage together.  It is threads, hundreds of tiny threads which sew people together through the years.

It was an amazing experience for both Pallavi and me to get married to each other on the 25th of the last month.  We just had a little more than three weeks from the day the dates were decided to the day that we tied the nuptial knot. And since we both decided to take up things on our own, it was hectic for both. The amount of travel was a lot more than we have ever done in life earlier. And that too - we being in two different cities and the marriage being done in a third city, 1500 kms away from each of these places.

There are many things to write about now. I wish to make separate blogs for the preparation for our marriage. Some of you might have missed looking at www.ewedding.com/sites/pallavi_divyajeevan . There will be a post on the honeymoon part and a lot of pictures to be uploaded (not of us but of the natural places that we enjoyed).

God gives us dreams a size too big so that we can grow in them.

Our kids...

There are many things in life that we believe could have been done better. We are sure that things are going to change for our kids. What difference they face in the world around us is a different question. But what knowledge they get from our experiences is something that we feel we have missed it from our parents, friends and environment in general.

Life goes on fast in today's world. And there are things which we may not even get a second chance to rectify in life. But they will.

Back..

Back! I am back!

There is a difference in thoughts when you are unable to write for a long time. There are many things to express and many things to write. Want to come back to form at the earliest.

Blogs to resume soon.

Right into my heart..

It's amazing how you can speak right to my heart
Without saying a word, you can light up the dark
Try as I may I could never explain
What I hear when you don't say a thing

The smile on your face let's me know that you need me
There's a truth in your eyes saying you'll never leave me
The touch of your hand says you catch me where ever I fall
You say it best when you say nothing at all

All day long I can hear people talking out loud
But when you hold me near, you drown out the crowd
Try as they may they can never define
What's being said between your heart and mine

The smile on your face let’s me know that you need me

There’s a truth in your eyes saying you’ll never leave me

The touch of your hand says you catch me where ever I fall

You sat best when you say nothing at all..

The smile…..

The Kid said...

This is an old story.. One Yogi was walking on a sea-shore. He thought he knows everything in the world and was quite self satisfied (or may be smug will be a better word). As he walked on the sea-shore, he saw kids playing and with pride he was smiling at the foolishness of the people in the world.

One of the kids started shouting when the ball he was playing went into the sea. He was making a sand-house, with two dolls, one cup, one hat etc.

The Yogi smiled at the kid and said, "Hey, don't cry for your ball. I will give you anything you want. Tell me what do you want me to do for you."

He stood in front of the kid with pride.

The kid just looked at him, and held a cup towards him, saying - "Can you put the whole sea inside this cup?"

The Yogi was speechless. He kneeled down and looked at the kid, the sea, and the sand-house.

And realized the futility of his powers.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Life is not about doing things out of the blue. It is more than that. All our powers can vanish in a second. It is of no use if it cannot make someone smile. :)
Life is love.

Difference between amateur photography and professional photography, assuming the photo clicked was great:

1. See - Dont think much - Click (Amateur they say!)
2. See - Think - Think - Dont Click - Go to Step One (Professional they say!)

Garbage Truck and you...

From an email fwd:

How often do you let other people's nonsense change your mood? Do you let a bad driver, rude waiter, curt boss, or an insensitive employee ruin your day? However, the mark of a successful person is  how quickly one can get back their focus on what's important. David J. Pollay explains his story in this way….

Sixteen years ago I learned this lesson. I learned it in the back of a  New York City taxi cab. Here's what happened. I hopped in a taxi, and  we took off for Grand Central Station. We were driving in the right  lane when, all of a sudden, a black car jumped out of a parking space  right in front of us. My taxi driver slammed on his brakes, skidded,  and missed the other car's back end by just inches!

The driver of the other car, the guy who almost caused a big accident,  whipped his head around and he started yelling bad words at us. My  taxi driver just smiled and waved at the guy. And I mean…he was  friendly. So, I said, "Why did you just do that? This guy almost  ruined your car and sent us to the hospital!"

And this is when my taxi driver told me what I now call, "The Law of  the Garbage Truck."

"Many people are like garbage trucks. They run around full of garbage,  full of frustration, full of anger, and full of disappointment. As their garbage piles up, they need a place to dump it. And if you let them, they'll dump it on you. When someone wants to dump on you, don't  take it personally. You just smile, wave, wish them well, and move on. You'll be happy you did."

I started thinking, how often do I let Garbage Trucks run right over  me? And how often do I take their garbage and spread it to other  people: at work, at home, on the streets? It was that day I said, "I'm not going to do it anymore."

Life's too short to wake up in the morning with regrets. Love the  people who treat you right. Forget about the ones who don't. Believe that everything happens for a reason. Never let the garbage truck run over you….

Perspective...

From an email fwd:When I read this email, I said I will compose a story based on these lines but there was some originality in this email and I copy-pasted it word-by-word, thought-by-thought, error-by-error, smile-by-smile. Read on…..

The train has started moving. It is packed with people of all ages, mostly with the working men and women and young college guys and gals. Near the window, seated a old man with his 30 year old son. As the train moves by, the son is overwhelmed with joy as he was thrilled with the scenery outside..

"See dad, the scenery of green trees moving away is very beautiful"

This behavior from a thirty year old son made the other people feel strange about him. Every one started murmuring something or other about this son."This guy seems to be a krack.." newly married Anil whispered to his wife.

Suddenly it started raining... Rain drops fell on the travelers through the opened window. The Thirty year old son , filled with  joy " see dad, how beautiful the rain is .."

Anil's wife got irritated with the rain drops spoiling her new suit.

Anil said,"Cant you see its raining, you old man, if ur son is not feeling well get him soon to a mental asylum..and dont disturb public henceforth."

The old man hesitated first and then in a low tone replied " we are on the way back from hospital, my son got discharged today morning , he was a blind by birth, last week only he got his vision,  these rain and nature are new to his eyes.. Please forgive us for the inconvenience caused..."

Well..

You have to walk carefully in the beginning of love; the running across fields into your lover's arms can only come later when you're sure they won't laugh if you trip. ~Jonathan Carroll, "Outside the Dog Museum"

Lots of people want to ride with you in the limo, but what you want is someone who will take the bus with you when the limo breaks down. ~Oprah Winfrey

I learned the real meaning of love. Love is absolute loyalty. People fade, looks fade, but loyalty never fades. You can depend so much on certain people, you can set your watch by them. And that's love, even if it doesn't seem very exciting. ~Sylvester Stallone

Hearts..

Empty pockets never held anyone back.  Only empty heads and empty hearts can do that.  ~Norman Vincent Peale

Kiddo?

I met them today morning when they had come to start the formalities for adoption of a kid. I am not convinced that they are suitable enough to handle the complexities of adopting a kid. I felt they are more interested in a lovely looking kid rather than anything else. People should have the maturity to handle physical deficiencies and emotional challenges associated.

It is a new beginning and like all new beginnings, we have to let go of things in the past. The parents should forget that they are facing some situation without a kid. They should be convinced that the newcomer in their home is a harbinger of joy and happiness and things which were not as good as of now are all going to change.

A kid does not know much when being adopted. But still (s)he is very much aware of things going around and knows that there have been times when (s)he was a lot loved and times when (s)he was totally considered a burden on the society.

They do understand that they are getting newer parents. They know the meaning of the word 'new' being associated with everything that changes. Adopting parents often assume that the kid is ignorant. They should not do so.

The condition of these kids is much better than those who are left to defend for themselves. Those who end up doing odd jobs in order to survive. And those who have nobody to turn to when they are abused.

When they see this love being given to them without asking, they initially feel afraid. All bad things in life started in a good way. Someone gave them a chocolate before making them work and then shouting at them in a language that you won't use for your own kids. Someone gave them an embrace before fingering around with them. These are so traumatic to the kids, particularly when the kid does not know how to express the actual feelings, leaving apart whom to express with.

Life is beautiful.

Music...

How is music born? It is born from a combination of sound and silence. Sound and silence are so beautiful in their own ways. And think of music when rhythms of sound and silence play around to create magic.

Music is what feelings sound like. It is a picture painted on the canvas of silence. The response of human mind to any stimuli falls short of the response it has for something sweet to the ears.

Music can alter your thoughts to such a great extent and that too in such a quick manner that you feel lifted from one world to another. We play the music, not the instrument. Long back I had read some poem in my schooldays in which the poet had requested the creator convert him to a flute so that the music of life can flow through him and give happiness to the world around him.

Music is something that the soul is so close to but can never translate into any other form of words or speech or action, as once translated, the virgin beauty of expression is something gets touched.

An eternal dance between sound and silence.

Climb..

When you climb a tree, it gives a wider view of the things around you. But for that, you have to climb the tree.

Life is more exciting only when you have the guts to explore ahead of things 'visible' in life.

Life is vast. Too vast.

A ship in harbor is safe - but that is not what ships are for.

I know you are reading this - Have the guts to follow your heart and your heart will ensure your happiness!

Trust life. Trust you heart.

Sunshine and Showers!

Rainbows would never be rainbows
If Sunshine had never met Rain
No one would never need comfort
If there was no sadness and pain

Life holds both sunshine and showers
The days arent all bright and fair
Look through the showers for the rainbows
You'll always find Hope shining there.

Don’t you think both Sunshine and Showers are awesome in their own ways and once they meet, they create the magic of rainbows!

Just one someone is the one..

Make someone happy,
Make just one someone happy;
Make just one heart the heart you sing to.
One smile that cheers you,
One face that lights when it nears you,
One girl you're ev'rything to.

Fame if you win it,
Comes and goes in a minute.
Where's the real stuff in life to cling to?
Love is the answer,
Someone to love is the answer.
Once you've found her, build your world around her.

Make someone happy,
Make just one someone happy,
And you will be happy, too.

As time goes by..

You must remember this,
a kiss is still a kiss,
A sigh is just a sigh,
The fundamental things apply,
as time goes by.

And when two lovers woo,
they still say "I love you,"
on that you can rely,
No matter what the future brings,
as time goes by.

Moonlight and love songs,
never out of date,
Hearts full of passion,
jealousy and hate,
Woman needs man, and man must have his mate,
there's no one can deny.

It's still the same old story,
a fight for love and glory,
A case of do or die,
The world will always welcome lovers,
as time goes by.

Dorothy...

Constant attention by a good nurse may be just as important as a major operation by a surgeon.

A quote from one of my favorite websites:

During my second year of nursing school our professor gave us a quiz.  I breezed through the questions until I read the last one:  "What is the first name of the woman who cleans the school?"  Surely this was a joke.  I had seen the cleaning woman several times, but how would I know her name?  I handed in my paper, leaving the last question blank.  Before the class ended, one student asked if the last question would count toward our grade.  "Absolutely," the professor said.  "In your careers, you will meet many people.  All are significant.  They deserve your attention and care, even if all you do is smile and say hello."  I've never forgotten that lesson.  I also learned her name was Dorothy.  ~Joann C. Jones

The light from within...

People are like stained-glass windows. They sparkle and shine when the sun is out, but when the darkness sets in their true beauty is revealed only if there is light from within.

The second option..

Reality and your imagination do not synchronize well in many cases. But when they do so in a sudden and favorable way, you get surprised. There is a mixture of feelings. You do not know whether you want to jump with joy or just wait for the precious moments to settle at the depths of your heart.

Am taking the second option.

What Connect!?

What do you do when suddenly you find yourself in the middle of a desert one fine night (and say, for the purpose of convenience, in a dream)?

No mobile network, no connectivity. Sounds good. Till you are hungry?

Connectivity is a relative term, I feel. I am connected to the rest of the world in many ways. And sometimes, this connectivity gets me into a stage that makes me think I would better be in that desert, (preferably, not alone, but can't afford to put her in trouble!), till I get hungry!

There are some ways in which these bouts of freedom are craved for, particulary when your connectivity makes you available to the whole globe from people any time of the day or night.

The Candle on the water..

I’ll be your candle on the water,
my love for you will always burn.
I know you’re lost and drifting
but the clouds are lifting.
Don’t give up, you have somewhere to turn.

I’ll be your candle on the water,
’till every wave is warm and bright.
My soul is there beside you,
let this candle guide you.
Soon you’ll see a golden stream of light.

A cold and friendless tide has found you,
don’t let the stormy darkness pull you down.
I’ll paint a ray of hope around you,
circling in the air,
lighted by a prayer.

I’ll be your candle on the water,
this flame inside of me will grow.
Keep holding on, you’ll make it,
here’s my hand so take it.
Look for me, reaching out to show,
as sure as rivers flow,
(different pitch)
I'll be your candle on the water,
this flame inside of me will grow.
Keep holding on you'll make it,
here's my hand so take it.
Look for me, reaching out to show, as sure as rivers flow,
I’ll never let you go.
I’ll never let you go.
I’ll never let you go...

Especially the blue..

From an email fwd:

I ran into a stranger as he passed by,
"Oh excuse me please" was my reply.

He said, "Please excuse me too;
I wasn't watching for you."

We were very polite, this stranger and I.
We went on our way and we said goodbye.

But at home a different story is told,
How we treat our loved ones, young and old.

Later that day, cooking the evening meal,
My son stood beside me very st! ill.

When I turned, I nearly knocked him down.
"Move out of the way," I said with a frown.

He walked away, his little heart broken.
I didn't realize how harshly I'd spoken.

While I lay awake in bed,
God's still small voice came to me and said,

"While dealing with a strange! r,
common courtesy you use,
but the family you love, you seem to abuse.

Go and look on the kitchen floor,
You'll find some flowers there by the door.

Those are the flowers he brought for you.
He picked them himself: pink, yellow and blue.

He stood very quietly not to spoil the surprise,
you never saw the tears that filled his little eyes."

By this time, I felt very small,
And now my tears began to fall.

I quietly went and knelt by his bed;
"Wake up, little one, wake up," I! said.

"Are these the flowers you picked for me?"
He smiled, "I found 'em, out by the tree.

I picked 'em because they're pretty like you.
I knew you'd like 'em, especially the blue."

I said, "Son, I'm very sorry for the way I acted today;
I shouldn't have yelled at you that way."
He! said, "Oh, Mom, that's okay.
I love you anyway."

I said, "Son, I love you too,
and I do like the flowers, especially the blue."

Koi to Dilbaar ho yaar.

Salty Coffee is Sweet!

An email fwd:
He met her on a party. She was so outstanding, many guys chasing after her, while he so normal, nobody paid attention to him. At the end of the party, he invited her to have coffee with him, she was surprised, but due to being polite, she promised. They sat in a nice coffee shop, he was too nervous to say anything, she felt uncomfortable, she thought, please; let me go home.... suddenly he asked the waiter. "Would you please give me some salt? I'd like to put it in my coffee."

Everybody stared at him, so strange! His face turned red, but still, he
put the salt in his coffee and drank it. She asked him curiously; why
you have this hobby? He replied: "when I was a little boy, I was living
near the sea, I like playing in the sea, I could feel the taste of the
sea, just like the taste of the salty coffee. Now every time I have the
salty coffee, I always think of my childhood, think of my hometown, I
miss my hometown so much, I miss my parents who are still living there".
While saying that tears filled his eyes. She was deeply touched.

That's his true feeling, from the bottom of his heart. A man who can
tell out his homesickness, he must be a man who loves home, cares about
home, has responsibility of home. Then she also started to speak, spoke
about her faraway hometown, her childhood, her family. That was a really
nice talk, also a beautiful beginning of their story.

They continued to date. She found that actually he was a man who
meets all her demands; he had tolerance, was kind hearted, warm,
careful. He was such a good person but she almost missed him! Thanks to
his salty coffee!

Then the story was just like every beautiful love story , the
princess married to the prince, then they were living the happy life...
And, every time she made coffee for him, she put some salt in the
coffee, as she knew that's the way he liked it.

After 40 years, he passed away, left her a letter which said: "My
dearest, please forgive me, forgive my whole life lie. This was the only
lie I said to you---the salty coffee. Remember the first time we dated?
I was so nervous at that time, actually I wanted some sugar, but I said
salt
It was hard for me to change so I just went ahead.I never thought that
could be the start of our communication! I tried to tell you the truth
many times in my life, but I was too afraid to do that, as I have
promised not to lie to you for anything..

Now I'm dying, I afraid of nothing so I tell you the truth: I don't
like the salty coffee, what a strange bad taste.. But I have had the
salty coffee for my whole life! Since I knew you, I never feel sorry for
anything I do for you. Having you with me is my biggest happiness for
my whole life. If I can live for the second time, still want to know you
and have you for my whole life, even though I have to drink the salty
coffee again".

Her tears made the letter totally wet.

Someday, someone asked her: what's the taste of salty coffee?

It's sweet. She replied.

Not everything...

Some thoughts from Albert

"Not everything that counts can be counted, and not everything that can be counted counts."

"Everything should be made as simple as possible, but not simpler."

"Great spirits have always found violent opposition from mediocrities. The latter cannot understand it when a man does not thoughtlessly submit to hereditary prejudices but honestly and courageously uses his intelligence."

"You see, wire telegraph is a kind of a very, very long cat. You pull his tail in New York and his head is meowing in Los Angeles. Do you understand this? And radio operates exactly the same way: you send signals here, they receive them there. The only difference is that there is no cat."

"He who joyfully marches to music rank and file, has already earned my contempt. He has been given a large brain by mistake, since for him the spinal cord would surely suffice. This disgrace to civilization should be done away with at once. Heroism at command, how violently I hate all this, how despicable and ignoble war is; I would rather be torn to shreds than be a part of so base an action. It is my conviction that killing under the cloak of war is nothing but an act of murder."

"Gravitation is not responsible for people falling in love."

Some thoughts on Love...

Warning: If you are in love, read slowly without jumping to conclusions. And read twice. (Who in life hasn't for at least once, fallen in love!?!?)

Read on:

Love is a highly non-linear transformation.

I am currently faced with a confusion between two of my friends who love each other. Presumably. And since one year, every week they say to each other that it is not a feasible idea to go ahead and let the story end. The guy has conveyed this to the girl and presumably again, the girl agreed. But the story does not end. There have been many such cases and there is denial from one side, mostly the girl's side, citing family reasons and whole lot of illogical statements. But this case is with the guy refusing to go ahead and the girl not letting it go. Well, since both are kind of very close to me, I am watching the scene, without enjoying it.

What is the point at which you decide to move on in life? If you really loved that person, does it take this much time to understand whether he is really interested?

What right do people have to give pain to others around them just because they still are not clear about how to go ahead in life? What goes on in the minds of their parents who are still agreeing to support the youngsters, thinking they will come to a good conclusion?

For a single guy or a girl, there will be many people who will be interested and who would love them. But it finally depends on one particular guy-girl pair who decides to take the plunge and go ahead in life together.

Clinging on to one person when the matter is not consistently two-sided is an insult to the very concept of love. Love is always two sided. If it is one-sided, it is more of admiration or fan-following than actual love. And there needs to be a consistency in behavior of both persons.

I have heard girls threatening to kill themselves unless the other person 'agrees' to love them. And forget about guys - they can go to any extent to 'prove' they love the girl, including cases of threatening to destroy the girl's life if unrequitted.

Is this love? Its like you love a football player or a movie actor and can die for him/her. And I am sure love is much higher than this.

Sometimes it's a form of love just to talk to somebody that you have nothing in common with and still be fascinated by their presence.

One big thing in love is guts. The ability to take risk. Its less about finding a highly compatible person. Its about being convinced that under any circumstances, both pilots can fly the biplane higher and higher. (In fact, hundred percent compatibility sometimes makes life boring!)

You never marry a ready-made off-the-shelf right person. Once you are single-mindedly dedicated to someone (s)he becomes THE right person because of the mutual interaction.

There is no ONE right person in life. But there is just ONE soul partner.

We are all a little weird and life's a little weird, and when we find someone whose weirdness is compatible with ours, we join up with them and fall in mutual weirdness and call it love.

A person who truly loves you will never let you have reasons to cry even by mistake. And if (s)he does that once in a while, it is pardonable. But you can easily make out what love is compared to what those fleeting experiences were. May be (s)he did love you that time. That way many times many people would have loved and will love you too, expressedly or inexpressedly. But if that feeling is not consistent and stable, it is not love, I am sure. It was a more of a neuro-cardiac malfunction.

Just because someone loved you for sometime, don't destroy the happiness of people near you, particularly parents. There will be many who loved you for sometime, say few days/months/years.

There is no method in love. But there's one sure test - you are happy in love.

If you aren't happy in the long run, you aren't in love.

Simulator tests...

At least six screens and five keyboards surrounding you - a droning hum around you from the processors and the air conditioning duct - artificial sunlight - and a simulated locomotive running at 110 miles per hour without moving an inch - few people (generally two) skillfully running the loco without confusing which mouse is with which keyboard - this is one of the four simulators in my lab. I have shown my lab to many visitors 'n' number of times with the same enthusiasm as I did the first time, although I am convinced that my friends in the US have a similar lab that is approximately 2000 times better than this lab. (I sometimes think if I were to sell this lab to a scrap dealer, would I be able to repair my bike?) But on the whole this is an excellent piece of machinery that works in all sorts of ways like your spouse would. It gives you happiness as well as anger, and you cry in joy as well as frustration. In fact I have a pic of one of my colleagues sitting with his head on the table, fully frustrated that his controller is not working. (I am not allowed to put that pic here, not because my company will kill me in a road accident, but because the same colleague will volunteer to drive the vehicle used for that).

On a Saturday if I happen to come to lab (and I swear by God's secretary that I haven't done such a mistake since I resolved this new year not to work on weekends), I put on loud music in the lab while my tests keep going on.

Things keep going on here without knowledge of the outside weather or news. And it is one level below the ground floor. Not many people outside my group come to our labs and once in a while when the lift brings them to the -1 floor, they are too amused thinking they have reached martian bedrooms. I am sure this place will the safest to hide in Bangalore in case cousins of Laden think they don't like something on earth and blow themselves up.

My dil goes mmmm..mmmmm....mmmmm...!!

He Says, She Says..

This post is from another person's blog and I liked the lines; read on:

He

Here i am.

Slogged all my life.
Achieved a lot, just not yet a wife.

Work takes up a lot of time.
Why should i be single, have i committed some crime ?

I love movies, music, the works.
Have a good sense of humour, not like one of the jerks.

Looking for someone honest.
A nice woman, who laughs at my jest.

Just dont be cunning.
Dont lie to me, or you’ll see me running

I’ll take good care.
Spend some good time together.
My life i shall share.

I have a lot on my plate.
And i am a great cook.
will you be my mate ?

She

I am religious, I am homely.
But without a husband i feel lonely.

I am not lame, i don’t play games.
Just need a guy of some fame.

I love working, some playful flirting.
My duties i don’t believe in shirking

What happened to all the nice guys, for whom women are not just toys?
The ones who are no more little boys?

I am great, don’t too much throw around my weight.
But how long will i have to wait?

Swades...

(Ye jo des hai tera, swades hai tera, tujhe hai pukaara…
Ye woh bandhan hai jo kabhi toot nahin sakta) -2

Mitti ki jo khushboo, tu kaise bhoolaayega
Tu chaahe kahin jaaye, tu laut ke aayega
Nayi nayi raahon mein, dabi dabi aahon mein
Khoye khoye dilse tere, koyi ye kahega
Ye jo des hai tera, swades hai tera, tujhe hai pukaara
Ye woh bandhan hai jo kabhi toot nahin sakta

(Hmm…hmm…hmm…hmm…hmm…)
Tujhse zindagi, hai ye keh rahi
Sab toh paa liya, ab hai kya kami
Yun toh saare sukh hai barse
Par door tu hai apne gharse
Aa laut chal tu ab diwaane
Jahaan koyi toh tujhe apna maane
Awaaz de tujhe bulaane, wahi des
Ye jo des hai tera, swades hai tera, tujhe hai pukaara
Ye woh bandhan hai jo kabhi toot nahin sakta
(Hmm…hmm…hmm…hmm…hmm…)

Ye pal hai wahi, jis mein hai chhupi
Koyi ek sadi, saari zindagi
Tu na poochh raaste mein kaahe
Aaye hain is tarha do raahein
Tu hi toh hai raah jo sujhaaye
Tu hi toh hai ab jo ye bataaye
Chaahe toh kis disha mein jaaye wahi des
Ye jo des hai tera, swades hai tera, tujhe hai pukaara
Ye woh bandhan hai jo kabhi toot nahin sakta
Hmm…hmm…hmm…

My heart goes..

aati hain woh aaise chal ke jaise  jannat mein rehti hain
dekhti hain sabko aaise jaise sabko woh sehti hain
par gusse mein jo aaye aur ankhein woh dikhlaye
ladte ladte galti se muskaaye
my dil goes mmmmmm....
my dil goes mmmmmm....
my dil goes mmmmmm....
my dil goes mmmmmm....

karti hu jab usse baatein lagta hain sone wala hain
soke jab jabbhi woh jaage lagta hain rone wala hain
par chupke se woh meri neend se mujhe jagaye
le baahon mein aur khud hi woh gir jaaye
my dil goes mmmmmm....
my dil goes mmmmmm....
my dil goes mmmmmm....
my dil goes mmmmmm....

ha woh na na karti hain
ha bada akadti hain
ha thodisi ziddi hain
ha akal se piddi hain
aate hain sab woh aaye, na aaye woh jaati hain
tedhi in baaton se mujhko yeh satati hain
har waqt se pehle aanaa sunn na na koi bahana
par dekhna mera rasta rojana
my dil goes mmmmmm....
my dil goes mmmmmm....
my dil goes mmmmmm....
my dil goes mmmmmm....

ha picture mein rota hain
ha khulle muh sota hain
ha jara nalayak hain
ha pitne ke layak hain
jaane kya kehta hain jaane kya karta hain
sofe pe chadhta hain pardo se ladta hain
jab karne lage safaai samjho ke shaamat aayi
fir thak ke jab leta hain angdaai
my dil goes mmmmmm....
my dil goes mmmmmm....
my dil goes mmmmmm....
my dil goes mmmmmm....

ha thodi alag si hain
ha thodi galat si hain
ha thoda alag si hain
ha thoda galat si hain
aaisi bhi hogi woh aaisa na socha tha
aaisa hi hoga woh aaisa hi socha tha
kyo lagta hain yeh apna
yeh sach hain ya hain sapna
dar lagta hain kahi ho na jaaye jhuth
my dil goes mmmmmm....
my dil goes mmmmmm....
my dil goes mmmmmm....
my dil goes mmmmmm....
my dil goes mmmmmm....
my dil goes mmmmmm....
my dil goes mmmmmm....
my dil goes mmmmmm....
my dil goes mmmmmm....
my dil goes mmmmmm....
my dil goes mmmmmm....
my dil goes mmmmmm....

Dekho chaaron taraf ab noor hai jannat ka

Ujli zameen, neela gagan
Paani pe behta shikara
Sapnon ki hai duniya yehi
Teri aankhon se maine dekha
Chupke se sun, is pal ki dhun

Aasha ke par lage, panchhi banke main uddi
Jinki thi aarzoo, un raahon se main judi
Kuch paa gayi, kuch kho gaya
Jaane mujhe kya ho gaya
Jaagi jaagi soyi soyi, rehti hoon khoyi khoyi
Meri bekaraari koi jaane na, jaane na
Rut hai deewani badi, chhede mujhe ghadi ghadi
Aise mein anadi dil maane na, maane na
Sapnon ki hai duniya yehi
Teri aankhon se maine dekha
Chupke se sun, is pal ki dhun

Mausam ka ho gaya, jaane kaisa yeh asar
Chehre se ab tere, hatati nahin meri nazar
Koi kahin na paas hai, bas pyaar ka ehsaas hai
Khushboo ka jhonka aaye, humein mehka ke jaaye
Humko na kuch bhi khabar hai, khabar hai
Door shehnai baji, yaadon ki dulhan saji
Seene pe tumhare mera sar hai, sar hai
Sapnon ki hai duniya yehi
Meri aankhon se dekho zara

Gehra hua, phatne laga
Kohre chhate
Dekho chaaron taraf ab noor hai jannat ka

Chupke se sun, is pal ki dhun
Is pal mein jeevan saara
Sapnon ki hai duniya yehi
Teri aankhon se maine dekha
Chupke se sun, is pal ki dhun
Teri aankhon se maine dekha
Chupke se sun
Teri aankhon se maine dekha
Chupke se sun, is pal ki dhun

Admire..

It is human nature to take delight in exciting admiration. It is what prompts children to say "smart" things, and do absurd ones, and in other ways "show off" when company is present. It is what makes gossips turn out in rain and storm to be the first to tell a startling bit of news.

Damagers!

It is such a great joy to study managers! This should be a special course in psychology. Just few minutes back I came to know the advantages of using the statement: 'We will discuss this offline'. It is good way to avoid a very logical (as well illogical) answer if the manager does not want to listen to you. It was very much a situation where a software tool was being discussed. And there were some people who showed that since they do not know that software, they are unable to proceed ahead. Well, I don't know how much time they would need to learn a new video game rather than this silly software. But that fellow's manager stops me in between and instead of listening to a solution that I had, says, 'We will discuss this offline'.

God bless managers!
